Configure the Events module

Understand the prerequisites for event calendars and decide how many events modules you need.

Prerequisites

The calendars that you want to publish to Ellucian Mobile users must be available through an HTTP URL.

The calendars must be in standard iCalendar format as described in IETF document RFC 5545.

How many Events modules do you need?

You can create as many Events modules as you need, but be aware of potential issues with having several Events modules:

  • Your users could become confused about which Events module contains the events that they want to see.
  • Your list of modules could become cluttered.

Because of the flexibility of Ellucian Mobile, there is a good chance that you will need only one Events module. You and your users can do the following to control the events that appear in the Events modules:

  • You can combine several calendars into a single Events module.
  • Users can filter out any event categories that they do not want to see.

The following are some situations where you might consider multiple Events modules:

  • Your institution wants to use Ellucian Mobile as a recruiting tool. You can set up an Events module that focuses specifically on recruitment events and make that module available for guest users rather than restricting it to authenticated users.
  • Your institution has a strong relationship with your community, and you want to have a separate module for off-campus or community events.
  • Your institution has extensive athletics or other "extracurricular" programs that you want to keep separate from other campus events or that you want to make available for guest users. For example, if each sport at your institution has its own calendar, you could combine those into a single "Sports Events" module. Users could then use the filter to view the specific sports that they are interested in.

Instructions

There are two main tasks for setting up your Events modules:

  1. Set up the Event Server Plugin with a list of all the calendars that you want to make available through the Event modules.
  2. Set up one or more Event Application Modules.
