Add a beacon definition to Ellucian Mobile
Create a beacon definition. After defining a beacon here, you can use it in location-aware Ellucian Mobile features.
Set up the application modules that are displayed in Ellucian GO.
Add an Ellucian module and specify standard settings
Use this procedure to add an Ellucian application module to Ellucian Mobile and specify the standard settings that apply to all modules. You will also need to specify module-specific settings for most modules.
Organize the module list
To help users find the modules that appear in the menu on their devices, you can divide the list into sections and put the sections and modules in any order. The module list in the Cloud Configuration tool reflects the way that sections and modules appear on the devices.
Audio Module
Use the Audio module to make audio clips available to users. For example, you can publish an audio clip that contains a message from the school president or your institution's fight song, with or without a static background image.
Courses Module
The Courses module allows students and faculty to view information about the courses that they are taking or teaching.
Directory Module
The Directory module allows users to search for people at your institution and get contact information for them. You can limit the search to certain groups of people, such as Students and Faculty. You can also control the contact information that is displayed for each person.
Events Module
The Events module allows users to view upcoming events on your institution's calendars.
Feeds Module
The Feeds module allows users to view news feeds from your institution. Users can view the full text and photos of the news items and share the items with other people. Your institution can have one Feeds module or multiple Feeds modules that focus on different categories of news.
Grades Module
The Grades module allows students to view midterm or final grades for all terms that have grades recorded in your information system. (The current term will not appear until midterm grades have been entered.) Users must be signed in to view their grades.
ILP Module
Colleague and Banner institutions that use the Ellucian Intelligent Learning Platform (ILP) can make information from supported learning management systems available to students through Ellucian Mobile. With ILP, students can view class assignments, events, and activities on their devices.
Important Numbers Module
The Important Numbers module provides users with a directory of important phone numbers and other contact information that you select.
Maps Module
The Maps module allows users to view maps of your campuses and get directions. Campus buildings are marked with pins, which users can tap for more information about the building.
Native App Launcher Module
Mobile Administrators can add a module that launches a third-party native application from within Ellucian GO on iOS and Android.
Notifications Module
The Notifications module allows users to view important messages from your institution.
Registration Module
The Registration module allows students to use their device to register for course sections.
Student Financials Module
The Student Financials module provides students with their overall balance and the most recent payment transaction information, with an optional link to a payment gateway or additional account information.
Video Module
Use the Video module to make video clips available to users. For example, you might have a video to promote a new academic program or an upcoming fine arts event.
Web Module
You can make any web application available as a menu item in Ellucian Mobile. The web applications should be optimized for use on mobile devices, and must be stored on a publicly available URL.
Partner Modules
You can add a module in Ellucian Mobile that launches the app of an Ellucian partner from within Ellucian GO. The partner app can be either a native mobile app or web application.
To view your configuration on a device, you must place the configuration into test status. When you are ready to make your configuration available in the public list of institutions on Ellucian GO, you publish the configuration.
Place a configuration into Test status
Each Mobile Integration Server web service app can control only one active configuration at a time. Placing a configuration into test status registers that configuration with the mobile server and provides you with a device URL that you can use to access your configuration for small-scale testing purposes.
Refresh cached data
To improve performance, both the Mobile Integration Server web services app and the Colleague Web API cache information that changes infrequently during normal operation.
Publish a configuration
The final step to make a configuration available to users is to publish it. When the configuration is published, users can see it in the school list in the Ellucian GO app and begin using it.
Unpublish a configuration
If necessary, you can withdraw a configuration from Ellucian GO.
Replace a configuration
Replace a published configuration with a new configuration.
The Google Analytics Platform lets you measure user interactions across various devices and environments. You can use Google Analytics to view detailed usage statistics of your school's Ellucian Mobile implementation.
Set up a Google Analytics account
Set up a free Google Analytics account and customize it to collect Ellucian Mobile information.
Enter your tracking ID into Ellucian Mobile
Connect your Ellucian Mobile configuration to your Google Analytics account.
View your analytics data
Usage data for your mobile app is displayed in Google Analytics. See the Google Analytics online help for information about viewing and interpreting usage data.
In addition to the ability to add a new configuration manually, you can create a new configuration by copying an existing one, export configuration information, import configuration information, and migrate a configuration to a different database.
Create a new configuration by copying an existing one
You can use the copy functionality to create a duplicate of an existing configuration.
Export configuration information
You can export a copy of your complete configuration information to a JSON data file. You can send that file to Ellucian Technical Support for troubleshooting purposes or save it offline for safekeeping and recovery purposes.
Import configuration information
Files that have been exported from the Cloud Configuration tool with Ellucian Mobile 4.0 or later can be imported into a new or existing configuration. Export files that were created before Ellucian Mobile 4.0 cannot be imported due to differences in data structure.
Migrate a configuration to a different database
As delivered, Ellucian Mobile stores your configuration information in an H2 datasource on the Tomcat server. As an alternative, you can set up a dedicated SQL Server or Oracle database to store your Ellucian Mobile configuration.
If you want to have multiple active configurations at the same time, you need to set up multiple Mobile Integration Server web service apps.
Install new Tomcat instances
To install new instances of Tomcat for your additional Mobile Server web apps you will need to either set up the new Tomcat instance on a different port or on a different physical server.
Existing Tomcat instance
Set up additional Mobile Server web apps on an existing Tomcat instance.
Multiple Mobile Integration Servers can be set up for a single configuration. This can be done to scale the solution to support more mobile users, or for redundancy. Deployment of multiple Mobile Servers requires a shared data storage using either a Microsoft SQL Server or an Oracle database.
Set up new Mobile Integration Server web applications
Set up a new physical or VM Mobile Integration server.
Users can view push notifications on their Android Wear and Apple Watch devices. Users with Apple Watches can also view ILP assignments and maps.
Apple Watch
On the Apple Watch, users tap the Ellucian Mobile app to display a list of all modules of type ILP or Maps from the app on a paired phone.
Debugging
Send detailed information from Ellucian Mobile to the log file to support troubleshooting.
Specify SIS configuration in the config.groovy file
You can enter SIS configuration information in the <sis>-mobileserver-config.groovy file, as an alternative to specifying that information using the Ellucian Mobile Cloud Configuration tool.
Required permissions for the Banner username
Ellucian Mobile requires access to several Banner Oracle tables and functions, and uses an Oracle user to connect to the required data.
Multiple Configuration Diagram
