Configure the Feeds module

Understand the prerequisites for news feeds and decide how many feeds modules you need.

Prerequisites

The feeds that you want to publish to Ellucian Mobile users must be RSS 2.0 or ATOM feeds available through an HTTP URL.

How many Feeds modules do you need?

You can create as many Feeds modules as you need, but be aware of potential issues with having several Feeds modules:

  • Your users could become confused about which Feeds module contains the news that they want to see.
  • Your list of modules could become cluttered.

Because of the flexibility of Ellucian Mobile, there is a good chance that you will need only one Feeds module. You and your users can do the following to control the items that appear in the Feeds modules:

  • You can combine several feeds into a single Feeds module.
  • Users can filter out any news categories that they do not want to see.

The following are some situations where you might consider multiple Feeds modules:

  • Your institution wants to use Ellucian Mobile as a recruiting tool. You can set up a Feeds module that focuses specifically on information for prospects.
  • Your institution has a strong relationship with your community, and you want to have a separate module for off-campus or community news.
  • Your institution has extensive athletics or other "extracurricular" programs that you want to keep separate from other campus news or that you want to make available for guest users. For example, if each sport at your institution has its own news feed, you could combine those into a single "Sports News" module. Users could then use the filter to view the specific sports that they are interested in.

Instructions

There are two main tasks for setting up your Fees modules:

  1. Set up the Feeds Server Plugin with a list of all the feeds that you want to make available through the Feeds modules.
  2. Set up one or more Feed Application Modules.
