Set up a Google Analytics account

Set up a free Google Analytics account and customize it to collect Ellucian Mobile information.

Before you begin

Institutions that have multiple published configurations at the same time need to choose one of the following strategies for analytics reporting:
  • You can set up a single Google Analytics account and use that account to report all of your configurations. This method makes it easy to see the combined data for all of your configurations, but you will need to use a somewhat more complex view, such as a pivot table, to see detailed information about the specific modules that people are using within a specific configuration.
  • You can set up separate Google Analytics accounts for each of your configurations. This method makes it easier to see detailed usage data for each configuration, but you will not be able to view the combined data for all configurations without exporting it and doing the calculations yourself.

Procedure

  1. Using a Google account, sign in to the Google Analytics website at https://www.google.com/analytics/index.html.
  2. Create a new Google Analytics account.
See the Google Analytics online help for the procedure for creating a Google Analytics account. Note the following:
    • Specify that you are tracking a mobile app (not a website).
    • Make a note of the tracking ID that is generated for the account. You will enter that tracking ID in the Ellucian Mobile Cloud Configuration tool using the procedure Enter your tracking ID into Ellucian Mobile.
  3. In the new account that you just created, go to Custom Definitions > Custom Dimensions, and create two custom dimensions with the following properties:
    Name Scope Active
    Configuration Name Hit Checked
    Module Name Hit Checked

Google displays example codes for the new dimensions. These are already built into Ellucian Mobile, so you can ignore the example codes and click Done.

Note: Your custom dimensions must have the names Configuration Name and Module Name, and must be created in that order, so that they will be recognized by Ellucian Mobile. When you view the custom dimensions after creating them, the Configuration Name custom dimension must have an Index value of 1 and the Module Name custom dimension must have an Index value of 2.
